Freestyle Safety

Freestyle terrain areas at Osler Bluff are marked with an orange oval and a size designation (XS, S, M, L, XL). These areas may contain jumps, hits, ramps, banks, boxes, jibs, rails, half/quarter pipes, snow cross, bump terrain, and other constructed or natural features. 
Prior to entering freestyle terrain, you are responsible for:
  • familiarizing yourself with features
  • obeying all posted instructions, warnings, and signage. 
  • maintaining control both on the ground and in the air.
Important Safety Notice: Use of freestyle terrain carries the risk of serious injury or death.  Inverted aerials are not recommended. By choosing to enter these areas, you assume all risks associated with their use.

Glade Area

Osler Bluff Ski Club features designated glade areas, natural skiing and riding environments intended for expert-level skiers and snowboarders only. 
  • Entering glade areas, means you assume all the risks, including damage, injury, losses or death.
  • These areas are designated for tree skiing and riding area.
  • Terrain is ungroomed and may contain unmarked hazards such as rocks, stumps, ice and sudden drops.
  • The trees don’t move - you do.
  • Never ski or ride alone.  It’s safest to ski or ride in groups of three or more.
  • Helmets and protective eyewear are strongly recommended.
  • Always ski and ride in control.
  • Before merging back onto the groomed trails, look uphill and yield to others.
  • These areas of the property are patrolled less frequently.

Touring

Uphill skiing and split boarding are permitted only on designated uphill trail lanes. All skiers and riders must follow the Uphill Code of Conduct to ensure safety for themselves and others. 
  • Uphill travel is permitted only on designated routes during operating hours.
  • Uphill travelers must always yield to downhill skiers and riders.
  • Uphill lanes are not intended for downhill use.
  • In the event of a collision, be prepared to exchange contact information.
  • Wear reflective gear, bright clothing and carry a light or headlamp for visibility.
  • Travel in single file within designated uphill lanes located on the side of trails, to reduce collision risk.
  • Dogs are strictly prohibited on the trails.
  • Do not enter closed trails or restricted areas – these may pose serious safety risks.
  • Avoid areas where machinery and equipment is in operation.
  • Follow staff instructions as routes may be adjusted for safety or operational needs.
  • Use appropriate equipment designed for uphill travel.
  • Trespassing is not permitted. Be prepared to show your membership badge or guest ticket when requested by Patrol or Club staff.
  • Check the trail report for uphill lane availability as it will change throughout the season based on conditions.
