Winch Cat and Snow Cat Safety

Attention Osler Bluff Ski Club Members and Guests: Grooming operations commence daily at 4:00 pm, immediately following the conclusion of regular on-hill activities. Due to Osler Bluff’s unique terrain, grooming equipment, including snow cats equipped with winch cables and anchor points—is used to maintain optimal trail conditions.

These winch cables may extend across trails, move without warning, and are difficult to see in low-light conditions. Contact with grooming equipment or cables can result in serious injury or fatality.

Grooming is primarily conducted on closed runs, where operators are engaged in track-packing and trail renovation. Snow cats have limited visibility due to blind spots, and operators may not see individuals on the trails.
To ensure everyone’s safety:

  • Vacate all trails by 4:00pm
  • Avoid all contact with grooming vehicles and equipment
  • Do not enter closed terrain or approach grooming zones
