The winter of 2010 was fantastic for Park and Pipe skiers across Ontario, Freestyle Skiing Ontario (FSO) ran 5 Park and Pipe Tournament series events in Slopestyle and Half Pipe in the southern Ontario region, and hosted two Canadian Series half pipe competitions in February, the Ontario Winter Games and Provincials Big Air competitions in March.  In addition to the Ontario events, The Ontario Park and Pipe Team (OPPT) competed in the Junior Nationals in Wentworth Nova Scotia in Slopestyle and Big Air; the Mount Snow, Vermont Freestyle Open; the TELUS Triple Challenge and the Senior Nationals in Calgary in March.

Osler member, Park and Pipe skier, Ben Maxwell, trained this winter with the FSO Escarpment team under the coaching leadership of Osler member, Jeff Ord who is a former nationally top ranked Ontario Mogul Team athlete. Ben had a very strong season finishing 3rd in M3 category at the Provincial Big Air Competition in March, and 10th overall in Canada among males in the February 14 national level Canadian Series half pipe competition and 8th overall in the TELUS Triple Challenge slopestyle event.  Ben is now preparing for spring and summer training including continuing trampoline training, Lake Placid and Lac Beauport water ramps and summer ski camps in Oregon or Whistler on the glaciers.

Great news!  Ben has been invited to the Ontario Park and Pipe Team (OPPT) based on his strong performance and rankings this year.  He is thrilled and will begin training with the team immediately - starting with biomechanical assessment at FITS then Lake Placid at the end of May and likely Momentum for two weeks in June then more ramp training, trampoline training etc.  He will be busy this summer.  Good Luck Ben!
